– Attended the three-day “Invest KOREA Summit 2023,” which got underway on November 6 at Busan’s BEXCO Exhibition Center; – Heard COO Yeonin Jung present on Doosan Enerbility’s roadmap for creating a carbon-free energy system. As the owner of important technologies for carbon-free energy, including offshore wind turbines, SMRs, nuclear power, and hydrogen energy, Doosan Enerbility is working to advance related industries. “Doosan Enerbility holds all the essential technologies required to achieve carbon-free energy,” the company says.

On November 8, Doosan Enerbility made an announcement stating that it had presented at the “Invest KOREA Summit 2023” on “The Energy Sector’s Role in Achieving a Sustainable Earth.” The BEXCO Exhibition Center in Busan hosted the three-day Invest KOREA Summit 2023 on November 6th in an effort to showcase Busan as the host city for the forthcoming World Expo 2030 and draw in foreign investment.

“In order to ensure a sustainable future for our planet, the energy sector must endeavor to attain carbon neutrality, and in the process, we also need to work on achieving energy security,” stated Yeonin Jung, President and COO of Doosan Enerbility, which participated in the event as Korea’s anchor company*. “The most practical way to achieve both carbon neutrality and energy security is to increase the use of carbon-free energy alongside renewable energy sources, such as nuclear and hydrogen energy,” he continued.

The plan for the envisioned future carbon-free energy system was provided by the COO. “We can produce carbon-free electricity from sources like large nuclear power plants, SMRs, and offshore wind turbines. With the excess electricity, we can produce clean hydrogen through the process of water electrolysis, which has applications in the transportation sector and other industries,” said President Jung. Moreover, hydrogen may be used to power the hydrogen gas turbines that Doosan Energy is presently developing or hydrogen fuel cells can be used to generate distributed power when there is a scarcity of electricity. “We will be able to achieve carbon neutrality and contribute to Korea’s achievement of energy self-sufficiency by building an energy system that runs on carbon-free energy,” stressed the COO.

Doosan Enerbility is working to accelerate the commercialization process while maintaining its focus on developing critical technologies for carbon-free energy. Its main goal is to increase the competitiveness of its carbon-free power generating assets, which include offshore wind turbines, massive nuclear power reactors, and SMRs. All of these can be utilized to produce clean energy. The company is also working to improve its method for producing clean hydrogen. While work is still being done on the nuclear-based hydrogen manufacturing technology, development of a wind-powered clean hydrogen production system is already complete. Another project that is still in progress is the creation of a 400 MW hydrogen gas turbine that runs entirely on pure hydrogen. This project is expected to be finished by 2027.

“To show our dedication to becoming an energy solution provider that helps realize a sustainable Earth, we changed our company name to Doosan Enerbility,” COO Jung stated. “Our company intends to actively participate in the efforts to achieve the dual goals of carbon neutrality and energy security, as we possess the necessary technology and capabilities to achieve carbon-free energy.”

At the Invest KOREA Summit 2023 on November 7, Yeonin Jung, COO of Doosan Enerbility, will speak on “The Energy Sector’s Role in Achieving a Sustainable Earth.”
