– The “S7X,” the world’s first all-electric skid-steer loader manufactured by Doosan Bobcat, won two awards.
– Doosan Robotics’ machine learning-based recycling classification system won the Artificial Intelligence category.
In an international competition honoring exceptional design and engineering, Doosan’s cutting-edge electrification and artificial intelligence products have been awarded for their technological prowess.

The all-electric skid-steer loader “S7X” from Doosan Bobcat and “Oscar the Sorter,” a recycling sorting solution from Doosan Robotics, were named Honorees of the CES 2024 Innovation Awards, the company announced on November 16.

Ahead of the world’s largest technology exposition, CES, which takes place in January in Las Vegas, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) bestows awards on goods with exceptional technology and creativity. These awards are known as the “CES Innovation Awards.”

First and foremost, the Doosan Bobcat ‘S7X’ has won two awards in the categories of smart cities, eco design & smart energy, and sustainability.

The flagship skid-steer loader from Doosan Bobcat is the S7X, an all-electric vehicle. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery, and an electric drive system has taken the place of all hydraulics. It has 50% less components than diesel versions in the same class. It uses 96% less fluid, such as lubricants and coolants, making maintenance simple, inexpensive, and emission-free.

With an instantaneous torque that is three times more than its diesel equivalent, the product’s performance is also noticeably improved. Furthermore, depending on the application, the smart power management system can run for up to 6 hours on a single charge while optimizing energy efficiency by modifying output to fit the working conditions. Operators can utilize it for more than a full day of work and benefit from its substantially lower noise and vibration if they charge it during their break.

In 1958, Doosan Bobcat invented the first compact loader in history, making it a pioneer in the small equipment sector. By launching the first all-electric, environmentally friendly compact track loader in history, the “T7X,” the firm completely changed the industry in 2022. Doosan Bobcat demonstrated its industry-leading technology by winning four prizes in total: two CES 2022 Innovation prizes for its skid-steer loader, “S7X,” and two CES 2024 Innovation Awards for its T7X.

Oscar the Sorter, a “recycling sorting solution” developed by Doosan Robotics, won the “CES 2024 Innovation Award” in the Artificial Intelligence category. It uses AI machine learning and is built on the “Dart Suite,” a software platform that allows collaborative robots to be easily controlled without the need for scripting.

“Oscar the Sorter” collects and arranges paper cups, plastic containers, cans, and other items into appropriate garbage cans after emptying their contents. These activities are often performed by vision recognition technology, but field use has been hindered by the fact that the cost of the vision system is almost equal to that of the robot.

‘Oscar the Sorter’ picks up objects using a ‘gripper,’ which imitates a cooperative robot hand, and uses vision recognition technology to measure and identify distinctions in current value and size depending on strength. The benefit of this approach is that classification tasks can be completed even in situations where visual obstructions are present. Moreover, objects with comparable looks can be categorized based on their respective materials.
Furthermore, AI machine learning technology continuously picks up on the material and shape of objects to eventually enable complex classification. This so makes it possible to extend its use in the future to the logistics and service sectors.

Doosan Robotics is also concentrating on enhancing its software capabilities by creating collaborative robot solutions built on GPT (generative pre-trained transformer) that can consistently identify and fix mistakes and carry out tasks without the need for human assistance.

“With these significant world-class achievements in acknowledgment of Doosan’s technological prowess in the worldwide innovative technology arena, we will continue to develop a variety of products and solutions that are environmentally-friendly and improve people’s lives,” a Doosan representative stated.

Doosan, which has been attending CES every other year since 2020, intends to exhibit its goods and innovations at “CES 2024,” which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on January 9–12 of next year. The Doosan booth will be in West Hall, LVCC – 5941.
